Johns Island town hall highlights infrastructure projects, first emergency room

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — Johns Island residents left a town hall meeting feeling hopeful Monday night after hearing city and county leaders outline a slate of projects aimed at improving emergency care, recreation options and traffic flow on the island.

The meeting drew a full crowd at Somm Wine Bar on Johns Island, where Charleston City Councilmember Jim McBride and Charleston County Council Chairman Joe Boykin shared updates on multiple initiatives.

Johns Island is expected to get its first emergency room after HCA Healthcare broke ground on its freestanding ER in September. The facility is expected to open this fall, a move leaders said will improve access to emergency care and reduce EMS response times in the area…
