Ejected driver dies after car leaves Rivers Avenue, hits tree in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A 67-year-old Charleston man died Sunday evening after a single-vehicle crash on Rivers Avenue, authorities said.

Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal identified the victim as Lorton Anderson. Anderson died at 6:29 p.m. Feb. 15 at Trident Medical Center following the crash, which occurred at about 6:02 p.m. near Rivers Avenue and Gumwood Boulevard.

Preliminary findings indicate Anderson was driving the only vehicle involved when it left the roadway and struck a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle…
