JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — Folly Road is known to be a dangerous road on James Island, but sections are finally on their way to see safety improvements for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists alike.
The James Island intersection and bike and pedestrian improvements include the installation of sidewalks along Folly Road from Ellis Creek to George L. Griffith Boulevard and the restriping of Folly Road. The total project cost is $5.61 million and is being funded through the 2016 half-cent Sales Tax, federal grants, the Town of James Island and the city of Charleston.
“Folly Road has been shown with the collision rates to be one of the most dangerous in the state for people bicycling, for people walking and for people driving,” Katie Zimmerman, executive director of Charleston Moves, says. “It’s a problem. There’s too many things going on. There’s too many conflict points, and we are seeing we’re losing neighbors because of that.”…
