1 dead after auto-pedestrian crash in West Ashley

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A pedestrian died following a Friday night crash in West Ashley, according to police.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in a wheelchair and a Honda Element around 7:45 p.m. on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard.

Police said the pedestrian was attempting to cross Sam Rittenberg from Gamecock Avenue – a location without a crosswalk or pedestrian signal – when they were struck. The vehicle’s engine compartment then caught fire…
