One dead in Johns Island structure fire, multiple lanes closed surrounding scene

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — One person has reportedly died in a Johns Island structure fire that sparked early Monday morning.

Though details on the fire are limited at this time, fire crews have blocked off multiple lanes headed toward Kiawah island as they work to extinguish the structure fire, according to St. Johns Fire District.

Preliminary information states that Betsy Kerrison Parkway at Kit Freeman Lane across from Holy Spirit Catholic Church has been closed. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route at this time, and those stuck in the traffic are being turned around. Drivers looking to get around the closure can take River Road to Mullet Hall Road, to Kiawah River Drive and on Betsy Kerrison Parkway on the other side of the fire scene.

It is not clear when the road will reopen as the area remains an active scene…
