Phyllis Miller, 69, from Beaufort County, died from crash injuries on March 7, 2026, just before 8 p.m. along Savannah Highway in Charleston’s Ravenel area. An SUV carrying Miller and three others struck a pickup truck driven by Ricardo Hernandez-Martinez, 44, who tried crossing southbound lanes.
Incident Details
Hernandez-Martinez was arrested at the scene on felony DUI resulting in death or great bodily injury; he was uninjured. All four SUV occupants were hospitalized; Miller succumbed later, others’ conditions unreleased.
Investigation
Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Unit is probing; no further updates on contributing factors.
