Family of Walter Scott to Host Community Gathering Honoring on 11th Anniversary of His Death

On Saturday, April 4, the family of Walter Scott will host a “Day of Grief Relief & Community Unity” in Park Circle to honor his life and remember others in the Lowcountry whose lives have been lost or forever changed by police violence. The gathering marks the 11th anniversary of Scott’s killing by a North Charleston police officer.

On April 4, 2015, Walter Scott, a 50-year-old father and Coast Guard veteran, was shot multiple times in the back during a traffic stop by a North Charleston police officer. Video of the incident drew national attention, sparking widespread calls for accountability and police reform and becoming a defining moment in the national conversation on racial justice and policing.
