Convicted Charleston felon sentenced on drug, gun charges

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A convicted felon will spend the next two decades in prison following gun and drug charges.

Deon Lathel Gibson, 40, was sentenced after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration saw Gibson meet with a known drug trafficking target in December 2023, which led Charleston County deputies to conduct a traffic stop on him as he drove away. During the stop, he attempted to fight multiple deputies on the side of the road.

When Gibson was secured and placed under arrest, deputies located 446.9 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded pistol in the vehicle. He also had $2,300 in cash…
