St. Stephen man faces drug, gun charges following high-speed chase

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who allegedly led law enforcement on a high-speed vehicle pursuit Friday.

Thomas Scott Moody, 48, is charged with failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, resisting arrest, trafficking methamphetamine more than 28 grams and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

A deputy saw a mini Kawasaki Ninja-style motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed along Mendel Rivers Road near Harristown Road. Once the vehicle covered a significant distance, the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Moody then lost control of the motorcycle in the mud, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. During the foot pursuit, deputies deployed a Taser on him after he was seen reaching toward a loaded gun. Deputies safely secured the gun and placed Moody in handcuffs…
