CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – E-bikes are becoming a safety concern for many people, and Charleston city councilmembers are working to strengthen enforcement to improve road safety.
The first step for leaders is to create definitions for reckless driving on an e-bike, in addition to identifying each type of motorized bike or scooter. Many e-bikes drive up to 30 miles per hour and can be effective forms of transportation, but when used irresponsibly, many pedestrians and other drivers feel their presence.
“There’s nothing more important than the safety of the people who live in the city of Charleston,” councilman Mike Seekings said. “If the safety is at risk in any number of fronts, including on the sidewalk or streets, we need to address it.”…
