Goose Creek treasurer accused of embezzling over $2K, deputies say

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) — An Oxford House treasurer was arrested after an investigation into forgery by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Brenda Carol Byrd, 63, is charged with breach of trust of more than $2,000 and forgery of less than $10,000.

Deputies responded to meet with a representative of the Oxford House in Goose Creek on Tuesday regarding missing checks and check stubs. They also met with the complainant and gathered details of the case.

During the investigation, they learned that Byrd lived at the Oxford House and was in a recovery program. Once they obtained copies of nine forged checks payable to Byrd, investigators determined the checks had been forged and negotiated by her…
