Community advocates for pedestrian safety in wake of fatal accident last week

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A woman killed in a pedestrian crash in downtown Charleston last week has been identified as 78-year-old Annelise Simmons.

Charleston Police say the collision happened shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday at the busy intersection of Broad and King streets. Investigators say Simmons was crossing Broad Street in a designated crosswalk when a pickup truck turning left from King Street struck her.

The intersection, located in the heart of the peninsula, sees heavy foot traffic daily from both locals and tourists. Even days after the crash, pedestrians continue to move steadily through the area…
