Man escapes custody near Hill-Finklea; Summerville police warn public not to approach

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Local authorities are searching for an 18-year-old man who escaped police custody early Friday morning near the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

According to the released information from authorities, as officers with the Summerville Police Department were escorting two arrestees to the Berkeley County jail facility, one of the subjects, Jovon Perlote, was able to escape and flee on foot. The incident occurred at around 12:33 a.m., according to Summerville police.

Perlote, who was being arrested on charges of auto-breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools, was reportedly never inside the detention center and remains at large at this time. Law enforcement is actively working to locate Perlote, who was reported wearing white socks (no shoes), blue and white shorts, a white zip-up hoodie and handcuffs…
