Summerville rabbit rescue braces for post-Easter spike in abandoned bunnies

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) — With Good Friday marking the start of Easter weekend, animal rescue advocates are warning about a seasonal surge in abandoned pet rabbits, a trend often referred to as “bunny-dumping.”

At Paisley’s Bunny Rescue and Sanctuary, one of the largest rabbit rescues in the United States, more than 250 rabbits are currently in their care, many of them tied to past Easter holidays.

According to the Summerville-area rescue, families often purchase rabbits as holiday gifts without fully understanding the long-term commitment required. Rabbits can live anywhere from 10 to 12 years and require specialized care…
