Helping Hands pantry of Goose Creek at risk of closure as freezer life dwindles

GOOSE CREEK S.C. (WCIV) — As grocery prices continue to climb, more Lowcountry families are turning to food pantries to help make ends meet. At Helping Hands of Goose Creek, that demand is growing fast — and now, a major equipment issue could impact what they’re able to provide.

Executive Director Niccole Franklin says the pantry’s walk-in freezer can no longer be repaired and must be replaced. Without it, the pantry risks losing thousands of pounds of food.

“If the freezer goes out,” Franklin said, “we would lose thousands of pounds of protein that we’re able to serve families with.”…
