Motorcyclist plunged from I-26 ramp, shutting Charleston’s Crosstown for 2 hours: CPD

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The motorcyclist whose crash led to the closing of part of the Crosstown roadway initially lost control of the bike and plummeted from the overpass onto a parking lot below on Monday, according to the Charleston Police Department.

Local authorities released additional details on Tuesday, explaining that the crash occurred on the ramp of I-26 west near Septima P. Clark Parkway around 4 p.m. The motorcyclist lost control, struck the barrier, and fell from the overpass onto a parking lot below. EMS personnel pronounced the driver, who was the sole occupant, deceased at the scene, police said.
