Hanahan City Councilman, mayor pro tempore arrested on federal charges

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCSC) — A member of the Hanahan City Council and the mayor pro tempore, or “acting mayor,” is facing federal charges.

Court records indicate that Kevin Phillip Hedgpeth was arrested some time Tuesday morning.

While his charges are not yet public, those documents confirm not only his arrest, but that he is scheduled for his initial appearance just after noon Tuesday at the U.S. Court House on Broad Street in Charleston.

This comes as the South Carolina Ethics Commission continues its investigation into Mayor Christie Rainwater and Councilman Michael Sally, both of whom are currently accused of not properly disclosing conflicts of interest.
