NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The North Charleston Police Department has arrested a man after locating narcotics in his vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Shawn David Bucholz, 54, is charged with possession of cocaine base, third offense, and possession of fentanyl, third offense.
North Charleston police officers were conducting proactive patrols at the Budget Inn around 3 p.m. when they saw Bucholz’s vehicle briefly stop at the motel and then leave. They initiated a traffic stop after they noticed multiple violations, which included Bucholz, the driver, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding and a broken headlight.
During the stop, officers said Bucholz appeared nervous and made suspicious movements before officers detected a burnt odor associated with narcotics use. When they removed him and a passenger from the vehicle, they searched him and found 0.1 gram of a substance that tested presumptive positive for cocaine and fentanyl.
