GREENSBORO, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Mallard Creek High School has been named a co-8A state champion after an appeals board overturned the controversial disqualification of runner Nyan Brown.
According to a statement from Mallard Creek High School, the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Appeals Board, administered by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), reversed the ruling that disqualified Brown during the May state track and field championships.
Following an emergency meeting on Tuesday morning, the NCHSAA declared Mallard Creek and Durham’s Jordan High School co-champions of the 8A boys state title.
