CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – We are giving you the First Alert on significant weather changes heading your way. A busy weekend of storms will give way to an intense and dangerous heat wave that could last through the Independence Day holiday weekend.
Weekend storm threat
Showers and thunderstorms will develop this Saturday afternoon as a weak shortwave moves across the region. The main threat window runs from 4 p.m. through midnight.
While most storms will be scattered, a few could become strong to severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts. The strongest potential is in western North Carolina, but the threat extends into northeast Georgia and Upstate South Carolina.
In the Charlotte metro area, Saturday’s high will reach near 90 degrees with southwest winds gusting to 20 mph. Saturday forecasts show the chance of rain at 30%.
