CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than six months after the final broadcast on the Carolinas’ first commercial radio station, the future of WBT’s legacy 1110 AM remains unclear.
At the end of 2025, the station’s current owner, Radio One, moved WBT’s newstalk format from 1110 AM to 107.9 FM. At the time, radio management said they were “thrilled to elevate WBT to the FM dial,” and that the future on the 1110 AM frequency would be announced soon.
Since the switch, the historic 1110 AM has been playing an instrumental music loop and a pre-recorded announcement redirecting listeners to the new FM home. Avid radio listeners wonder what, if anything, could come next on the 1110 AM frequency…
