CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS – The intersection of Oakdale and Sunset roads is slated for a weekend closure to make way for a pair of adjacent roundabouts — and related closures will continue for more than a month.
Starting Friday, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close the northwest Charlotte five-point intersection as part of a $6.8 million project to build two single-lane roundabouts: Oakdale/Miranda/Simpson roads and Oakdale/Sunset/Miranda.
Construction began earlier this year.
Demolition begins at historic Excelsior Club as plans for reconstruction move forward
The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, July 17, through 6 a.m. Monday, July 20, with the following detours posted for drivers:
- Oakdale detour north of project: Oakdale to Mount Holly-Huntersville Road to N.C. 16 back to Oakdale;
- Oakdale detour south of project: Oakdale to N.C. 16 to Mount Holly-Huntersville back to Oakdale;
- Sunset detour south of project: Sunset to Peachtree Road back to Oakdale.
- Sunset detour north of project: Sunset to Peachtree to N.C. 16 to Mt. Holly-Huntersville back to Oakdale.
