Charlotte man gets 56 years for killing father, wounding son

A Mecklenburg County jury rejected a self-defense claim and found a 34-year-old man guilty of a 2020 shooting that killed a father and wounded the victim’s son.

The defendant, Jamie Briggs, was convicted of second-degree murder, along with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Superior Court Judge Timothy J. Rooks then sentenced Briggs to serve 538 to 680 months in prison.
