Parking lot full as the polls active in Charlotte with primary voting

Things were busy at the Charlotte Town Hall on Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, with residents waiting at the door, having to take turns getting in or out, to vote.

One of those who had started their day at the ballot box was Pete Johnson, who had his priorities straight — vote then fish. Johnson had a couple of fishing rods in the passenger seat of his convertible, and after casting his votes he was off to cast a line or two.

His vote varies depending on what issues a candidate is running on, but the biggest issue for Johnson is how expensive home prices are in Charlotte.

“I moved here 10 years ago to retire, and I have not been able to buy a house,” he said, so he is renting in order to stay in Charlotte and be closer to his daughters and grandchildren…
