MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Firefighters are crediting a working carbon monoxide alarm for saving a woman’s life after a power outage late Friday night.
During the outage, a Matthews woman’s generator automatically kicked in. She did not know that the generator had a gas leak. This created CO from incomplete combustion, which led to carbon monoxide filling the home.
Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly if it reaches dangerous levels. Officials say it reached those levels in parts of the home.
Luckily, her CO alarm was working. She then called 911…
