Man shot during 2024 Charlotte police struggle found guilty in federal gun case

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A federal jury has found a Charlotte man guilty of illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina, the verdict was returned Thursday after a two-day trial for 36-year-old Marcus Jamal Shankle.

Prosecutors said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police confronted Shankle on Oct. 3, 2024, as he was leaving a restaurant. Officers said Shankle tried to pull a handgun from his waistband and was disarmed, but then grabbed a second gun.
