CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – We are giving you the First Alert for a busy weather pattern this weekend. After Friday’s record-breaking heat, today brings cooler temperatures but scattered storms, followed by a return to summerlike conditions through next week.
Today: Not as hot but stormy
Temperatures will be noticeably cooler today, topping out around 85 degrees — a big drop from Friday’s record 97-degree high. However, you’ll trade the heat for showers and thunderstorms.
A shortwave moving over the area, combined with a stalled frontal boundary and increasing moisture, will create numerous showers and thunderstorms.
Storm chances peak between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., though scattered activity is possible throughout the afternoon and evening.
The good news: The severe storm threat is low, though isolated heavy rainfall is possible given the moisture and storm coverage. Winds will remain light to moderate from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph…
