Mecklenburg County completed a $24 million overhaul of its Amble Drive MRF recycling plant. Every piece of equipment was replaced. The facility now has 16 optical sorters that allow residents to recycle more items at the curb. Charlotte and 20 other communities across the region send their materials here.
“We have replaced all of the recycling equipment in our plant, every bit of it down to the last conveyor belt,” said Jeff Smithberger, director of Mecklenburg County Solid Waste, according to WSOC-TV. Most equipment came from the Netherlands.
