How one Charlotte creative is rebuilding community on the dance floor

In a graffiti-covered basement at the Area 15 creative compound in NoDa, one may hear Kapri Cherry call out to a crowd of partygoers, “Black love,” and hear them answer, “Black power.”

The call-and-response occurs throughout events hosted by the Keepers Collective, a group of Black artists in Charlotte who throw parties and events that preserve Black culture and build deeper connections among partygoers.
