Monroe Police charge convicted felon in shooting Tuesday night

MONROE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Monroe Police said that a convicted felon arrested on several gun charges knew the person he shot at on Tuesday.

No one suffered injuries in the incident.

Police went to a shots fired call in the 700 block of Maurice Street and quickly identified 36-year-old Damien Smith. Authorities located Smith on Brooks Street in the vehicle he fled the scene in.

Police arrested Smith and charged him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm in the city.
