Nearly 100 grams of suspected fentanyl found at Gaston County home, 4 arrested

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Four people have been arrested after nearly 100 grams of suspected fentanyl was found inside a Gaston County home, Cherryville Police said.

Officers with the Cherryville Police Department were called to a home along Putnam Street at 5:29 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, to help with a search.

As officers were searching the home, they found a plastic bag that contained 98 grams of suspected fentanyl. Following the discovery, four people inside the home were arrested on various charges.

Daniel Wayne Knighten, of Cherryville, NC, has been charged with trafficking fentanyl, PWISMD Schedule II, and maintaining a dwelling.

William Greg Ellis, of Cherryville, NC, has been charged with resisting a public officer. Tina Lee Ann McCumbee, of Gastonia, NC, has been charged with resisting a public officer, and David Stanley Abernathy, of Fort Mill, SC, has been charged with two orders for arrest.
