As Charlotte sees a rise in violent crimes with juvenile suspects, state leaders are working to address youth violence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Leaders in the Charlotte area and North Carolina at large are working to cut down on youth violence. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the city saw a rise in violent crimes with juvenile suspects in 2023. CMPD said shootings involving a person under the age of 18 as the suspect increased by 33% in 2023, while shootings involving a juvenile victim increased by 18%.
