Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a call of an active shooter at the University of NC Charlotte, College of Education building (COED) Thursday, around noon.
More than 10 police vehicles and a helicopter responded to a 911 call reporting an active shooter on the University of North Carolina-Charlotte’s campus.
Some students took to social media claiming they heard gunshots around noon at the the center of the campus. Most buildings went on lockdown after hearing the news.
When police arrived, they evacuated COED and locked down both UREC and the Student Union which are set directly across from where the call came from.
After a thorough investigation, CMPD cleared the area and found no signs of an active shooter.
COED and UREC are clear and in full operation but the school has advised students to stay away until further notice.

Teachers felt on edge and Police responded quickly after what happened on campus in 2019.
Late April in 2019, a mass shooting took place at the UNCC. The shooting sent five students to the hospital, two were dead upon arrival and left the others in critical condition. The shooting happened inside a classroom in the Kennedy Building. The shooter, Trystan Andrew Terrell, who was a former UNCC student, was arrested shortly afterward. In September 2019, he pleaded guilty to the murders and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
