A HOMEOWNER has been left distraught after being forced to use inheritance and her late husband’s finances to pay an HOA bill.
Lori Worsman from Charlotte, North Carolina, is part of the Carmel Chace community undergoing a $3 million renovation.
The HOA manages three different sections of the neighborhood, one of which has over 60 homes around 50 years old and in desperate need of work.
As a result of the HOA’s decision to hire a contractor to do over $3 million worth of work, residents are being forced to foot the bill.
The size of each bill is determined by an assessment per home.
Worsman said that she had been asked to pay a staggering $52,500.
“I had to borrow from my inheritance,” she told WSOC-TV.
“I had to take money out of my 401(K). I started taking my deceased husband’s Social Security.
“Somebody needed to hear our story.”
One of Worsman’s neighbors has been asked to pay around $38,000 and luckily she had money left to her by an uncle.
