Heat advisory in place this afternoon, strong storms possible

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A heat advisory is in place for part of our area this afternoon. Heat index values topping out above 105° is possible. The heat and humidity along with a cold front that is approaching will spark scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, a few of which could become strong or severe. A level 1 and 2 risk (out of 5) has been issued in the Carolinas to highlight the number of severe storms we could see. Heavy rain, damaging winds, and some hail will be possible. All these reasons are why a First Alert is in place for today.
