Strong to Severe Weather Likely Late This Afternoon & Evening

Good afternoon everyone. As forecasted, we are watching some very heavy showers and thunderstorms moving ashore along North Carolina & South Carolina, then heading into interior parts of each state.
Strong to severe weather is likely in many parts of the Carolinas, reaching all the way back into Georgia, Tennessee, and eventually Kentucky as well. While not everyone will see severe thunderstorms, heavy convection and banding will continue to move ahead of our slow-moving cold front, grinding to the east no thanks to our tropical activity heading north.
For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch across most of Florida, all of south and southeast Georgia, and a large chunk of South Carolina. We are expecting these watches to expand as time goes on and our convective bands begin to intensify further.
As of now, we are watching heavy gusty showers and thunderstorms coming ashore into the Charleston area, southwest of Wilmington, plus some moderate to heavy rain in Charlotte and Savannah. Look for locally damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of widespread brief tornadoes over the next 24-36hrs depending on your location.
