Weather more settled after devastation from Helene; chance of showers for weekend

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Historic, catastrophic flooding in the mountains. Flash Flood Emergencies.

It was a heartbreaking situation that developed in the mountains Thursday night into Friday morning. The cleanup and rebuilding will continue for a long time. Fortunately, the weather has settled for the evening with lighter winds. However, the rain chances aren’t totally done for the weekend.

LIVE: Helene causing historic flooding, 100+ rescues reported in NC

It won’t be a washout, but as a spinning low-pressure system (including the remnants of Helene) lingers to our west, a few spotty showers can’t be ruled out, especially from Charlotte and west of Interstate 77.

These could occur in the late afternoon and evening hours both Saturday and Sunday. I’d take the poncho or jacket if you’re heading to the Panthers game, just in case.
We’ll get some drier conditions building in by the middle of next week.

Tonight: Partly cloudy and breezy. Low 65.

Saturday: Partly sunny. Spotty PM showers possible. High 81.
