Woman charged with felony hit-and-run after pedestrian fatally struck in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A woman has been charged with felony hit and run after striking a pedestrian in east Charlotte, police say.

On December 8, around 4:37 p.m., CMPD officers responded to a hit-and-run call with injuries in the 6200 block of Albemarle Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive person, later identified as 49-year-old Jeremiah Daniel Parrish, lying in the middle of the road.

Medic transported Parrish to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries. On December 14, Parrish died as a result of his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Parrish was attempting to cross Albemarle Road outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a silver 2011 Ford Escape driven by 25-year-old Kenricka Janee Gist.

Gist initially fled before returning to the scene two hours later to speak with officers. Gist was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. Speed and impairment are not expected factors for Gist.

According to records, she is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail.
