CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS)—According to a letter released Wednesday, Carowinds will undergo some big changes in 2025 following a billion-dollar investment from its parent company, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
The theme park announced in August that they plan to unveil a family launch coaster and an interactive raft ride in Camp Snoopy. In 2026, Carowinds also plans to launch a “record-breaking water ride”, with more details to come next summer.
But when there’s good news, oftentimes it precedes some bad news.
The company says as they plan to “move forward and evolve sometimes we must step away from some attractions from our past.” Beloved rides, Nighthawk, Scream Weaver and Drop Tower, are being retired but officials did not give a date on when they’ll close.
Nighthawk took to the skies in 2004, but started at California’s Great America amusement park four years earlier. Scream Weaver first debuted in County Fair in 1979 before finding its permanent home in Thrill Zone in 1993. Drop Tower opened in 1996 with its heart-racing drops from 174 feet in the air at up to 56 miles an hour.
