UNION COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A woman has been accused of stealing more than $200,000 from residents in local senior living facilities, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Hattie Sturdivant, 50, worked at an assisted living facility in Mecklenburg County. According to deputies, Sturdivant befriended a resident and unlawfully accessed his finances.
Over four months, she allegedly moved and spent more than $200,000 from the victim’s bank accounts. During the investigation, two more victims were found in Union County in which Sturdivant used similar tactics to gain their trust and access their accounts, officials said.

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, Sturdivant was arrested in the Indian Trail area; she was booked into the Union County Jail under a $1,000,000 bond for 12 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, 12 counts of exploitation of an elder, and financial transaction card fraud.
Authorities say anyone who suspects an older adult of being a victim of exploitation should immediately report it to the sheriff’s office.
