Tornado watch issued for Gaston, Cleveland and surrounding counties

A tornado watch is in effect for Gaston, Cleveland and surrounding counties until 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

“A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will track across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia this morning into early this afternoon ahead of a strong cold front. Damaging wind gusts will be the main hazard, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Additionally, moderate to heavy downpours may lead to isolated nuisance flooding, mainly along the Blue Ridge Escarpment.”
