Two people charged after police shut down an illegal gambling operation in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Charlotte police shut down an illegal gambling operation in northwest Charlotte last week.

In 2024, CMPD said they saw a rise in calls for service at a store on Hoskins Road. From Aug.1 to Dec. 1, the small convenience store was the source of 44 calls for service, sparking a deeper investigation into the business.

Officials say the business was warned about the illegal nature of their machines and failed to comply.

On Feb. 28, CMPD’s ABC unit and Freedom Division officers executed a search warrant at the business and seized:

  • Four illegal gaming machines
  • A payment redemption kiosk
  • An online gambling kiosk, used for loading and retrieving funds from internet-based gambling
  • Approximately $13,000 from the machines

Two individuals found using the machines were charged with misdemeanors…
