LANCASTER, S.C. — Family, friends, and neighbors are grieving the loss of Christina McVay and her 6-year-old son, Colin after the pair were shot and killed earlier this month. The man accused of taking their lives was someone Christina’s father had been trying to help, resulting in a gesture of kindness that ended in heartbreak.
On March 9, Lancaster County deputies say 24-year-old Jacob Sobieraj opened fire inside the McVay home. Sobieraj had been living in the family’s garage. Neighbors say Christina’s father, Theodore, had taken him in after meeting him at church before his daughter and grandson moved in. Sobieraj was homeless at the time, and Theodore wanted to offer him a helping hand.
