Man faces murder charge for Charlotte woman’s July 2024 death

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Court records show a man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in south Charlotte in July 2024.

Brandon Braxton, 33, faces charges of murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the death of Whitney Elizabeth Hurd, 32, according to court documents filed Thursday. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has not yet made an official announcement regarding the arrest.

Hurd was found dead on Sunday, July 14, along Werburgh Street in a townhome community near Tyvola Road and Park Road. Her family had reported her missing three days earlier on July 11.
