CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Starting in April, the Social Security Administration is rolling out stricter ID verification rules and limiting phone-based services to combat fraud. These are changes leaders at Champion House of Care in Charlotte believe could leave many seniors struggling to get accustomed to — something the group is seeking solutions for by offering an open door.
“We hope people get their checks on time,” shared Executive Director Janette Kenard. “Many seniors depend on their Social Security check on time to pay bills, get food, get medicine, and if [they] don’t have it, their income is gone.”
Champion House of Care, which is a day support program for people aged 13 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has since stepped in to help those who don’t have computers, don’t use the internet, and don’t know where to start.
