Mary King announces departure from WBTV: ‘I find myself full of gratitude’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – After nearly 17 years in broadcast news and almost six of those years at WBTV in Charlotte, I will be stepping away to walk into a new chapter in mid-April.

For nearly all of my time in news, I have worked as part of the “morning team.” While a 2 a.m. alarm is never quite “normal,” I have found such joy in getting to start my mornings with the community I call home. I have also been extremely blessed to work with amazing people. People who want the very best for the community they live and work in and who truly desire to tell the stories that matter to the people we serve.

For that reason and many others, this decision is so bittersweet. When I stepped into journalism right out of college so many years ago, God pointed my heart to Proverbs 31:8-9, “Speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves…” I desired to give a voice to those who did not have one and to tell the stories that may otherwise go untold…
