Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department investigators never interviewed a Muslim student at Ardrey Kell High School or her family before announcing no hate crime was committed when she was reportedly assaulted by a classmate in March, a family spokesperson said.
Jibril Hough of the Islamic Center of Charlotte spoke on behalf of the family in an interview with The Charlotte Observer on Thursday and said the family was disappointed with CMPD’s conclusion, but understood there is a high bar to bring a hate crime charge.
