Body of man missing since 2016 found in car trunk at salvage yard

LEXINGTON, N.C. (WXII/CNN NEWSOURCE/WKRC) – Nearly decade-old skeletal remains have been discovered in the trunk of a car at a salvage yard in Lexington, North Carolina. The remains have been identified as those of Lee Anthony Funderburk, who was reported missing in 2016 from Charlotte, approximately 60 miles away.

Funderburk was 53 years old when he went missing.

The vehicle, which belonged to Funderburk’s mother, was being processed by a salvage company when a worker made the grim discovery. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.

“I didn’t know whether to shout for joy or just fall and bawl like a baby,” said Elton Robinson, Funderburk’s son, to WBTV. “So I just did a mixture of all of them.”…
