Police: 15-year-old charged in Columbia auto break-ins as part of multi-state crime spree

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A teenager is facing charges amid an investigation into break-ins in Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department said Friday that a 15-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested and faces the following charges in Columbia:

  • Nine counts of auto breaking
  • Nine counts of criminal conspiracy
  • Eight counts of grand larceny/larceny
  • Four counts of possession of a stolen handgun

“CPD investigators believe the teen could be responsible for 150 auto break-ins across multiple jurisdictions in a multi-state crime spree,” the department said in a statement Friday.

CPD also said other law enforcement agencies are investigating similar incidents involving the teen. Investigators are also working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in North Carolina to extradite the teen…
