Man charged for Monroe man’s fatal overdose: Police

MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man has been given a $1 million bond for supplying drugs that led to a man’s death, according to the Monroe Police Department.

On March 4, 2025, officers responded to a house on Broome Street about an unresponsive man. Despite life-saving efforts, the man, 39-year-old Jerry Petrovus Deese, was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was determined to be a drug overdose, officials said.

Investigators identified 52-year-old Fredrick Oneal Bivens as the person responsible for giving Deese the drugs that led to his death.
